“Did you get it?” I ask Marley, queuing up my boom box in my family’s kitchen. I had an hour at most before my parents infiltrated this sacred moment.

“We just got back from Best Buy!” Marley squeals and I hear her ripping through the CD’s plastic covering. I had gotten overzealous, stabbing mine with scissors, leaving a microscopic fissure on the beautiful cover. I don’t share this faux pa out of shame.

“It had its own display!” I report giddily, clutching the CD like a zealot might hold a Bible.

“I KNOW!” Marley concurs. “Ok-I’ve got it ready; let’s start simultaneously,” she instructs.
